Finding myself writing this is heartbreaking, but I am looking for the right long-term home for my dog, Gunner.
Gunner is a 3-year-old Rottweiler who is deeply loved, and this is not a decision I’ve made lightly. My goal is not to find the fastest home. My goal is to find the *right* home.
Gunner is everything people love about the breed: deeply loyal, intelligent, affectionate with his people, playful, and full of personality. He forms strong bonds with the people he trusts and loves being involved with his humans. Whether that means playtime, structure, routine, or simply being near his people, connection matters a lot to him.
He is house trained, crate trained, knows basic commands, and thrives when he has clear expectations, consistency, and engagement. In the right environment, he has so much to offer someone who understands and appreciates strong, loyal dogs.
I also want to be fully transparent because Gunner deserves the best possible chance at long-term success.
Gunner has reactivity issues and is not good with other animals, so he must be the only pet in the home. He is also not a good fit for a home with children. Because of this, he needs an experienced, confident owner, ideally someone familiar with large breeds and reactive dogs, who can provide structure, responsible handling, exercise, patience, and consistency.
This does *not* make him a bad dog. It means he needs the right match.
**About Gunner:**
- 3 years old
- Rottweiler
- Not neutered
- I will cover the cost of vaccinations prior to rehoming
- House trained
- Crate trained
- Knows basic commands
- Extremely playful, affectionate, and loyal with his people
- Thrives with engagement, structure, and consistency
**Ideal home / screening criteria:**
- No other pets
- No children
- Experienced dog owner strongly preferred (especially large breeds or reactive dogs)
- Stable housing situation
- All adults in the household are aware of and supportive of adopting him
- Willing and financially able to provide routine veterinary care
- Willing to have a phone conversation before meeting
- Willing to provide verifiable identifying information (social media or references)
- Long-term commitment only
- Not looking for a guard dog, breeding, or temporary placement
A $50 rehoming fee will apply to help ensure serious inquiries, and that amount will go toward Gunner’s neutering. I will personally cover the remaining cost.
This is an emotional decision, and I will be selective. Gunner’s safety, stability, and long-term success matter far more to me than placing him quickly.
If you believe you may be a good fit, please include:
- Your experience with dogs (especially large or reactive dogs)
- Your living situation (house/apartment, yard, other animals, household members)
- Why you think Gunner may be a good match for your home
