What we have here is a fantastic sounding Marshall amplifier from 1986. This one has a great range of tones. The cleans are warm and articulate, the crunch is like Marshall is supposed to sound and it sings and sustains when you stick a TS9 in front of it to give it some juice. It is quite powerful and pretty heavy. This started life as a JCM800 model 4210. The 4210 came with channel switching, reverb, an effects loop and a slave output. These are all cool features, but very new concepts for 1986 and not well executed. It never sounded really great with all the extra circuitry and extra wire runs. What I have done with this amplifier was to create my favorite version of the JCM800 which is the 2204/4010. This is the 50W, single channel, master volume version of this amplifier. The mod was done by very neatly by replacing the printed circuit board with a turret board all hand wired. This is very robust construction. The rest of the amplifier is original including the transformers and speaker. With the turret board construction, this would be a very easy amp to experiment with your favorite Marshall mods. There are two unused 12AX7 sockets and enough power transformer current to power them. Play it as the wonderful amp it is, stick it in a head, or make a Jose, Chupacabra or whatever fire-breathing variant strikes your fancy.
