I am a professional tutor with a master’s degree and over 30 years of experience. I tutor English for adult internationals (American pronunciation, EFL, ESL, and ESOL) and the verbal parts of six standardized exams (ACT, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, SAT, and TOEFL). I have worked one-on-one with over 300 clients from over 60 countries at client residences and workplaces and mutually convenient locations and online (via Google Hangouts/Meet, Skype, Webex, and Zoom). I am also a professional writer, and I also tutor writing, including essay writing.

Disappointed by other Woodlands-area tutoring services? There’s a reason for that: it’s a mafia. Tutoring and “test prep” companies (agencies, centers, and franchises) are motivated by one thing and one thing only, and that’s MONEY. The tutoring business is just that: a business. All tutoring companies are the same, and they are all run by people who are not even located in The Woodlands – but, instead, in places like Atlanta, Dallas, and New York. They care NOTHING about education and everything about lining THEIR pockets with YOUR money.
The only reason that mainstream “test prep” programs work is that they force students to take the exam so many times that they just get used to it. They take the exam over and over again until it becomes routine. It’s rote learning – a habit that will go out the window the minute after they sit for the exam. Their tutors are nothing more than glorified nannies who babysit students through badly written materials – riddled with mistakes – and practice exams. They never teach any actual concepts. You pay thousands of dollars, and, ultimately, your child learns nothing.
The reason that traditional tutoring programs are so expensive is that you are paying primarily for pricy overhead in one of the most expensive zip codes in Texas – not to mention the six-figure salaries of office bureaucrats: empty, paper-pushing functionaries with “business degrees” and zero experience in education. They not only do not know anything about the subject matter their companies claim to instruct. They don’t know anything about anything. They rake in obscene profits – while they pay their tutors as little as $12 an hour. (You read that right.)
If you see positive reviews for any tutoring business in The Woodlands area, that’s because their employees literally BRIBE MINOR CHILDREN with “gift cards”: a practice that is not only unethical. That should be illegal.
