When your get your new pineapple plnat, set it in bright light and keep its soil moist. Your plant needs a sunny, warm, and humid environment to grow strong and tough. Let your plant adapt to bright, indirect light for around 2-3 weeks before moving your plant to an area where it receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight. If you live in a warm climate, it is best to keep the pot outside if you prefer. As temperatures begin to drop below 60° F (15° C), bring your pineapple plant inside so it doesn't get damaged by the cold. It can take several years for your plant to grow flowers and eventually a fully developed pineapple, usually 18 months to 3 years.
It may be hard to determine whether the fruit is ripe, so here are a few tips! Try to pick one of the leaves off the crown of the fruit. If it easily comes out, then it is good to pick. Another way to test if you want to pick it is the color. As it ripens it will go from green-gray to yellow and will have a slightly soft texture on the shell when squeezed.
When the pineapple fruit is finally ripe and ready to be harvested, cut it off from the stem, just below the base of the fruit.
